Maddie - Were Portuguese Police Really Negligent? Empty Maddie - Were Portuguese Police Really Negligent?

The press at the moment is having a field day crucifying the Portuguese police force for not following up sightings of Maddie. The latest revelation today is a supposed sighting in Norway which was allegedly not followed up.

Lets think about this for a moment. A snatched child is sighted and it is reported. What is there to follow up? Are police supposed to attend the area she was sighted in for a little stroll about? The information was logged by Portuguese police. I'm not sure what else they can do?

And how are Portuguese police supposed to follow up sightings in other countries? Presumably the people who thought they saw Maddie would have contact Norwegian police rather than Portuguese?

And what about Interpol? Surely if there are sightings outside of Portugal it is out of Portugal's jurisdiction?

It seems to me the press is losing sight of the issue at hand. If Maddie is missing it isn't because of the negligenceof any police force, it's because the parents neglected her and left her alone in a strange Hotel room.

It bothers me that the McCanns still seem intent on blaming Maddie's continuing abduction of everybody but themselves.

I think the police were negligent, they had it in their minds that the McCanns had done something to her, I think that's why they were so slow to react.

The McCanns were wrong to leave a the children on their own in a strange apartment in a strange country, but a little girl had been abducted, the Police should have done so much more to try and find her.

I would imagine Interpol do follow up any sightings? Mind you, the head of Interpol was one of our very own, very corrupt Cops, Jackie Selebi is perhaps the most corrupt person in South Africa and the put him on the top rung of the Interpol ladder? With people like him in Interpol, no wonder poor Maddie has never been found.

Well, short of knocking on everybodies door Im at a loss to know what else they could have done.

Forensics examined the scene and many people were questioned by Portuguese police. Other than that...where do you start?

My personal view is that if Portuguese police thought the McCanns killed Maddie it can only be because the evidence they have points only in that direction?
