This is quite interesting..Perhaps a little food for thought??

The Status Quo Trap: Keeping on Keeping On..

In one experiment a group of people were randomly given one of two gifts — half received a decorated mug, the other half a large Swiss chocolate bar. They were then told that they could effortlessly exchange one gift for the other. Logic tells us that about half of people would not get the gift they prefered and would hence exchange it, but in fact only 10% did!

We tend to repeat established behaviours, unless we are given the right incentives to entice us to change them. The status quo automatically has an advantage over every other alternative.

What can you do about it?
•Consider the status quo as just another alternative. Don’t get caught in the ‘current vs. others’ mindset. Ask yourself if you would choose your current situation if it weren’t the status quo.
•Know your objectives. Be explicit about them and evaluate objectively if the current state of affairs serves them well.
•Avoid exaggerating switching costs. They frequently are not as bad as we tend to assume.

I love posts like this!! :-)

I don't think 10% switching gifts is actually surprising.

On the face of it the chances of the person getting the gift they want is 50/50 but the truth is its really closer to 33%.

The reason for this is that there is a third option. The person doesn't like either gift...

Now if we take this 33% and break it down even further to consider what percentage out of this 33% would manage to successfully swap their gift with another person in that 33% who doesn't like theirs then we have a figure of only about 15%. In other words, half of the unsatisfied percentage swapping with the other half of the unsatisfied percentage.

Does that make sense to anybody other than me? I know it's a little early in the morning!! lol

The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion that stands at the cradle of true art and true science. Whoever does not know it and can no longer wonder, no longer marvel, is as good as dead, and his eyes are dimmed. It was the experience of mystery -- even if mixed with fear -- that engendered religion. A knowledge of the existence of something we cannot penetrate, our perceptions of the profoundest reason and the most radiant beauty, which only in their most primitive forms are accessible to our minds: it is this knowledge and this emotion that constitute true religiosity. In this sense, and only this sense, I am a deeply religious man... I am satisfied with the mystery of life's eternity and with a knowledge, a sense, of the marvelous structure of existence -- as well as the humble attempt to understand even a tiny portion of the Reason that manifests itself in nature."----Albert Einstien..

Good Friday is the Friday within Holy Week, and is traditionally a time of fasting and penance, commemorating the anniversary of Christ's crucifixion and death. For Christians, Good Friday commemorates not just a historical event, but the sacrificial death of Christ, which with the resurrection, comprises the heart of the Christian faith. The Catholic Catechism states this succinctly:

Justification has been merited for us by the Passion of Christ who offered himself on the cross as a living victim, holy and pleasing to God, and whose blood has become the instrument of atonement for the sins of all men (CCC 1992).

Good day everyone.. Very Happy

It has been proved that showing affection strengthens growth and positive development in people. We all need physical contact to feel good, and one of the most important ways of physical contact between two people is hugging.

Who does not need cuddles in this society that is becoming ever colder, more competitive, that compels us to be more individualistic, more personal-goal oriented...?

When we hug, we receive an energy feedback. We bring life to our senses and reaffirm the trust in our senses. Sometimes we CANNOT find the right words to express how we feel, and then hugs are the best way to say it.

The Power of Hugs
Hugging achieves many things that you might never have imagined. For example:

?It feels good
?It dissolves solitude
?It defeats fear
?It opens the door to sensations
?It improves self-esteem (wow, he or she wants to hug me!)
?It encourages altruism (I can't believe it, but I want to hug that person)
?It delays aging (those who hug age more slowly)
?It helps reduce appetite (we eat less when we are nourished with hugs and when our arms are wrapped around others)

Just as laughter is, it is highly contagious! Whatever your hug may be, let it always come from the heart, not from the mind....And in this virtual world?? For some its the their only contact with other folk. So from me to you..

Did you know that the Heavenly Father has a name? The surprising truth is that the Name of the Creator of the universe is found 6,823 times in ancient Bible manuscripts, yet it was concealed by Bible translators who believed it was too holy to use. But the Bible challenges you to discover and use the only true, personal Name of the Creator and the Name of His Son, our Savior - the only Name that gives salvation!

His name is Yahweh.. Very Happy

American prison Facts..

• Over 2.3 million Americans (about 1% of the population) are currently incarcerated. That is the highest percentage in the world, ahead of Russia, St. Kitts and Nevis, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Turkmenistan.

• It costs taxpayers about $23,000 a year to house and feed each prisoner.

• About seven percent of U.S. federal prisoners are female.

• Over 75% of women incarcerated in the U.S. are single mothers.

• Over half of all federal prisoners are being incarcerated for drug offenses.

• About 73% of American federal prison inmates are U.S. citizens and 16% are Mexican.

• Whites make up 56% of all federal prisoners; 40% are black, 2% are Native American and 2% are Asian.

• According to one study, African-American men are twice as likely to spend time in jail during their lifetime as they are to earn a bachelor’s degree.

• Between 1930-2007, 4,958 prisoners were executed in the U.S.

• In Florida, the oldest male state prisoner is Frank Rowland, 89, who is serving a life sentence for sexual molestation. The oldest female is Marie Otero, also 89, who is serving a 31-year murder sentence.

• In 1981, an Alabama judge gave Dudley Wayne Kyzer what is believed to be the longest sentence ever dispensed in American history--10,000 years for killing his wife. He also received life sentences for murdering his mother-in-law and a college student...He'll not be out any time soon then.. Laughing

• Rikers Island in New York is considered the world’s largest penal colony. As many as 130,000 inmates reside there each year (although only about 15,000 at any one time).

• William Heirens has been serving in an Illinois state prison since September, 1946. The 79-year-old killed three women. His 61 years behind bars is probably the longest sentence currently being served.

• California has the most populous prison system in the nation, with about 175,000 inmates.

• North Dakota has about 1,300 inmates, making its prison population the smallest in the U.S.

British Prison facts and figures.. Very Happy

In January 1993 there were 41,561 in jail in England and Wales. The current population is 77,004 (according to BBC Online).

When Labour came to power in 1997, the prison population had increased to more than 60,000, a rise of about 45 per cent in four years.

The prison population is currently 143 per 100,000 of total population in England and Wales. In other words, 0.143% of the total population is in jail.

The equivalent figures for other countries are:

United States 724
Russia 581
Ukraine 364
South Africa 344
Poland 223
Spain 140
Scotland 135
Netherlands 127
Portugal 123
Australia 120
Germany 97
Switzerland 83
Norther Ireland 80
Japan 60

11,081 inmates were recalled to prison in 2004/05 compared with 3,182 in 2000'01 'a staggering increase' according to Inspector of Prisons Anne Owers. There was thus a 250% increase in the number of prisoners recalled for breaching release conditions.

More people are in prison for 'violence against the person' than anything else. Next in order are drug offences, burglary, robbery and sexual offences. These five categories account for the large majority of those in prison.

Exactly half of female prisoners and 47 per cent of male prisoners ran away from home as a child. This compares to 11 per cent of children in the general population that runs away. 52 per cent of male prisoners and 71 per cent of female prisoners have no qualifications.

About seven out of ten prisoners of both sexes have two or more mental disorders. More than half of both sexes have used drugs in the previous year...

An Easter Bonnet represents the tail-end of a tradition of wearing new clothes at Easter, in harmony with the renewal of the year and the promise of spiritual renewal and redemption.

The "Easter bonnet" was fixed in popular culture by Irving Berlin, whose frame of reference was the Easter parade in New York City, a festive walkabout that made its way down Fifth Avenue from St. Patrick's Cathedral:

In your Easter bonnet
with all the frills upon it,
You'll be the grandest lady in the Easter parade.

At the depths of the Great Depression a new hat at Easter, or a refurbished old one, was a simple luxury
