THOUSANDS of illegal immigrants have been given permission to stay in Britain - as a REWARD for dodging the authorities for long enough.

They can apply to live here after 14 years without being caught and 7,245 have been successful.

Last night Sir Andrew Green of MigrationWatch UK fumed: "It is wrong in principle to reward people because they have broken the law for so long."

The Home Office said only one in three applicants had won "indefinite leave to remain" under the rule introduced in 2003.

But Sir Andrew said there could be a million illegal immigrants here and warned: "There will be many, many thousands more who will qualify."

Hi Ea :-)

It's crazy isn't it? But this isn't a new law, this has been around for awhile and thousands already have taken advantage of it.

When I was working in immigration it wasn't these naturalisation laws that people used to stay in Uk but rather they took advantage of a little known status called Exceptional Leave to Remain.

Everyone knows a successful asylum seeker will get indefinite leave to remain so what is exceptional leave? Well, our barmy Government grants exceptional leave in cases where although the asylum application has been refused it would be against the human rights of the applicant to send them back where they came from until the war in their country is over. More often than not, the person is still hre 14 years later and then acquires a right of naturalisation!
