Sheer luck or sheer stupidity?

Post  El Guapo on Wed Aug 04, 2010 11:58 am

TOUGH nut tot Yuqi Lui has astonished medics with his miracle recovery from an accident that left a pair of razor sharp shears embedded next to his brain.

The scissors were jammed into four-year-old Yuqi's cheek when he fell over as he ran with them in his hand.

X-rays showed the blades only just missed Yuqi's brain after becoming caught on his jawbone.

But he tripped as he was running to meet dad Tiancun from work and fell on to the scissors.

Mum Fengshuang said: "I heard him shout daddy and run out. I looked out the window expecting to see him come into view and then suddenly I heard him scream.

"It was a terrible high pitched wail and my heart leapt into my mouth.

"I ran and when I got to him I saw the huge pair of scissors that he had been using to cut up the scrolls was jutting from his face."

Yuqi's parents borrowed a farm truck for an agonising ride around local hospitals seeking treatment for their stricken son.

Only after 17 hours on the road, did surgeons at Beijing's Capital Institute of Paediatrics at the Xiehe Hospital agree to operate.

Fengshuang added: "After examining Yuqi the specialist surgeon Dr Zhao Jizhi came to see us and explained surgery was the only option - and it had to be done as soon as possible.

"He told us that if the scissors had been pulled out when the accident happened our son would have died."

Now lucky Yuqi has made a full recovery from his ordeal after two weeks in hospital.

His mum added: "It cost us all the savings we had but it was worth it to get the sunshine back into our lives."

I wondered about that too! Not sure what laws China has got re: child neglect etc tho..

Stories like this though make you wonder why there isn't also a law against being fucking stupid.

I don't think health and safety is looked into much in China. My husband has been on business and he said the factories are crazy. They would be shut down here....
You would think where a child was concerned that parents would look out for them...but that depends on the parents, maybe lack of education or/and different culture means they don't worry about the kids the same way we do.That's not to say they don't care, just don't worry that things are gonna happen before they do, as they are so busy trying to live... who knows !!! scratch

Jeeesus well, that was an accident waiting to happen. Shocked
The mother was definately neglectful here and I hope that she has learned a serious lesson. 4yrs old and scissors in the same sentence makes me shiver! More surprising is that the child didnt find them without the mothers knowledge....she GAVE them to him. GOD! affraid

I'm glad the little lad survived, but China is probably the worst country in the world for and sort of human or animal rights. Did they have to pay for the childs stay in hospital? The mother said they had spent their life savings?
