LABOUR have sparked new fury by trying to buy the election in a series of taxpayer-funded ads.
TV screens and billboards are being flooded with Government plugs in the run up to polling day.

Ministers blew a massive £30million on official Government adverts in January alone, The Sun can reveal.

It was the FOURTH month in a row ad spending records were broken.

Some of the campaigns are genuine health awareness drives.

But many more are highly political, bragging how well the Government is doing on election issues like fighting crime or tackling the recession.

Last night Francis Maude, shadow minister for the Cabinet Office, said: "Trade union barons can't stuff enough money into Labour's pockets, so Labour ministers are ripping off taxpayers instead.

"This has all the hallmarks of a banana republic, trying to buy the election by abusing public funds."

Amazingly, there are no rules on state advertising before elections.

Among the controversial ads are a £2.4million policing pledge campaign, while hard-up forces are actually axeing officers.

Another £1.9million was spent in January alone paying celebrities Kelly Brook, Suggs and Helen Mirren to plug the Government's online information site, Directgov.

A total of £223million went on official ads over the last year.

As The Sun revealed last month, Labour has used the ad trick before.

Spending on Government PR has peaked in the year before an election in the three polls since the party came to power in 1997.

Is it right that tax payers money should be used in this way? Im personally totally against the idea. The reason we pay tax is to pay for public services....not to keep some Scottish potential paedophile in power!

The corruption of this Cabinet gets more astounding by the day!

Billboards about how labour are tough on crime? PMSL, How they handled the recession? How many billions is the UK in debt thanks to Nu LieBore, the high crime rate is due to Nu LieBores ineptness, they are corrupt, lying. thieving sycophants. How dare they steal more of tax payers money. Until the people start to fight back, things will get worse by the day.
