Pre Nuptial Agreements

Post  El Guapo on Fri May 14, 2010 9:47 am

Pre nuptial agreements are not recognised in British common law but they are taken into account in divorce proceedings as an indication of the intention of the parties.

What are your views on Pre Nups? Is it wrong for somebody to ask a future husband or wife to sign one? If so, why?

Well, personally I see nothing wrong with protecting the assets a person has accumalated afore they met their intended. It does seem a little shallow...But if one has worked hard enough at whatever, and got a few bob in the bank..Then a prenup is the way to go, if thats agreeable by both parties.

If I had assets worth more than the man I was marrying, then I would want a pre nup lol!! If he had more than me I wouldn't!

Only Joking.........sort of. I would want my properties protecting because they are mine, bought by my own hard-earned money and if my husband to be wanted to protect his properties, I would agree to that as well, but If one starts counting every little thing then it does become mercenary I think.

What about lurve? lol

I think it's a delicate subject but I can't help but feel pre-nups are a sensible idea in today's day and age.

People should marry each other for love rather than money and if a potential spouse really didn't like me asking them to sign a pre-nup I'd have to ask myself serious questions about their intentions...

Personally speaking even if a relationship didn't work I would make it my mission to ensure any partner was adequately taken care of after a split but this should be at my discretion rather than because the state tells me to!
