Sooooo, you would deprive people from listening to what they may regard as nice music? Music changes all the time. And while I agree there is a lot of dross, some of it is good and will stand the test of time. Each generation has "their own" music. My earliest memories are hearing my dads old 78's, in the 50's, shortly followed by rock and roll. My brother was a teddy boy. But getting back to the OP..Tastes vary, and theres enough music from different times, gendres ect to suit everyone imo.

Re: Who fucked up British music??
lol
In the 50's people who grew up in the 30's and 40's complained about the new devil's music; Rock n roll.
In the 70's those from the 60's complained about the new flower power.
In the 80's those from the 70's complained about electro pop...
Anyone see a pattern emerging here?

Re: Who fucked up British music??
I know what you're saying Xtras but maybe these new manufactured bands are just an evolution of pop? IMO ALL pop music is manufactured to a degree.
But I don't think pop music is stifling out the other genres. For example, RnB, and Indie have neer been more popular.
I guess the problem new bands face these days is one of exposure. It's hard to get noticed when shows like Pop Idol shove these new "artists" down your throat every saturday night.

Re: Who fucked up British music??
Dont ya just love bleedin' experts!! Look, traditionally bands would "do" the rounds of pubs, clubs and agents. Getting experience, exposure and trying out stuff. If they were lucky they got signed up. Its still the case today, though perhaps its a little harder, I dont know. But there is a place for ALL kinds of music. Be it rock, rap or pop. Just because its not your type winston, dont mean others shouldnt enjoy it. Stop being a music snob!

I like all sorts of stuff, bit my fave is Pink Floyd and now Gilmour and the folk ha plays with, then there are the new classical composers, Howard Goodall, McCartney and the newly emerging Sting. Then Jazz, Courtney Pine and Mike Westbrook who I went to see as a student. Then there's bands like The Script who I like. Music is there for all sorts of peeps, some folk must have liked Black Lace and stuff
