Alone on the Battlefield


Alone on the battlefield,
Waiting to die,
A lifetime of emotions,
Pass before my eyes,
Many men I have slain,
Now my judgement has come,
Alone on the battlefield,
My time almost done,
Those that I love,
I have left behind,
To fight for Justice and Freedom,
In such harshest of times,
To die in a strange land,
This is my lot,
Will my life be remembered?
Will my sacrifice be forgot?
The life of a soldier,
Expendable and cheap,
Alone on the battlefield,
No one can see me weep,
With my last dying breath,
I make a final wish,
May God protect my family,
And spare them from anguish,
Let my death give them pride,
Rather than grief,
I die for their futures,
I die for my beliefs.
