Scouting for Girls have played a free gig on London's fashionable Carnaby Street, joking that they no longer need the money.

Lead vocalist Roy Stride told Sky News: "We're so rich and famous now. We didn't ask for money. It's definitely a first."

The one-off acoustic performance was streamed live and will soon be available on their MySpace page.

The band said it was quite a gear change after a summer playing festivals.

"We've just come back from V Festival and that was one of the best reactions we've had," said Stride.

"It's a shame they're all over now."

The band from South Ruislip, London, are still recovering from the London to Brighton bike ride.

"It was very painful, we're very sore. We thought it would be a good idea to make it a bit more interesting by doing it on children's bikes," said Stride.

"So it was two very long days on small children's bikes... we didn't even have stabilisers."

The She's So Lovely singers raised £20,000 for the children's charity Wellchild.....

How refreshing to read this. They seem like nice grounded young men, and deserve all there success.. cheers

Former UB40 frontman Ali Campbell has been ordered to rest by doctors after collapsing in the studio and being diagnosed with Epstein Barr virus.

The singer had what he thought was flu as he rounded off recording a new album in west London and had to be taken to hospital when his temperature soared.

The bug caused actress Barbara Windsor to take a two-year break from EastEnders until 2005.

Campbell will be rescheduling some of his live dates to allow him to rest.

A statement released on Campbell's behalf said: "The virus can be very debilitating and doctors have subsequently advised him to have eight weeks' complete rest.

"The doctors have also advised Ali to ease up on all touring commitments until the end of the year - in order to fully recover from the virus."

"The good news is that doctors have assured us that Ali will be fine, once he has had time to recuperate."

The performer, who is now solo, provided the vocals on a string of UB40 hits including Red Red Wine and One In Ten....Get well soon Ali, you've given us years of great musical classics.. Very Happy

It seems to me that after 28 years of fronting UB40, the management with who Ali has been at loggerheads with, should hold their heads in shame!!

UB40 are without doubt one of the best loved bands this country has ever seen imho.. Very Happy
