Should Jack Straw Give Evidence?

The American Government, still smarting with Britian because of the (half American owned but shush don't mention that to the American public...) British company BP's handling of the recent oil spill, have now decided that they have some right to interrogate our members of Parliament over the release of Al Meghari.

Obama has recently challenged 3 key members to appear before Senate to answer their questions. The Scottish Minister responsible for the release of Al Meghari, the head of BP, and former Home Office Minister Jack Straw.

Now whilst I agree that Al Meghari should never have been released the very nerve of America to even attempt such a public interrogation of our Parliament greatly disturbs me.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but we were still independent of America last time I checked weren't we? Since when does Britain need to answer to America for what we do in our own country?

We talk a great deal about the encroachment of the Middle East in the West but perhaps we also face another enemy far closer to home who is also intent on World domination?

Our relationship with America is a partnership and as valuable a partnership to America as it is to the United Kingdom. Britain is America's guest invitation into Europe and perhaps it's time Britain began to throw their weight about a little just to politely remind our dear American friends of this?

I agree EL, the USA since Obama became President has become more Arrogant, they seem to no longer see us as Allies but more as someone to score points against. The USA is fast turning into a Bully.
I think it is about time we cut the strings that tie us and the US together and stop being their whipping boys.

The Senate committee is a bunch of over fed, over egotistical bullies that need 6 or 7 Senators against 1. Maybe we should ask them to explain Why most of the British troops killed in Kuwait was killed by US Pilots or why did we really go into Iraq.
Obama has proved himself to be anti British maybe it's time we kicked him into touch and looked after our own.

THE US government secretly told Scottish ministers they wanted the Lockerbie bomber set free.

Officials asked for Abdul Baset Ali al-Megrahi to be freed on compassionate grounds and remain in Scotland rather than be switched to a Libyan jail under the Prisoner Transfer Agreement.

A letter from Richard LeBaron, deputy head of the US Embassy in London, to Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond emerged last night, stating: "It would be a far preferable alternative."

Meanwhile Scotland's Justice Minister Kenny MacAskill last night denied striking a deal with cancer sufferer al-Megrahi after it emerged he visited him in his cell a week before his release. He was jailed for life for the 1988 jet blast that killed 270.

US senators are investigating if al-Megrahi was freed so BP could seal an oil deal with Libya.
