We often talk of contributions that folk make to the UK, and what makes our country good.

I think the medal should go to the Birds!!……Not the female kind, the feathered kind!


It doesn’t matter that the economy is bad, it doesn’t matter that we are fighting the Taliban in Afganistan, doesn’t matter that Dancing on Ice is on later, or who will be the next Prime Minister!!

There will always be a dawn chorus……………

We bicker and fight, get annoyed, fall out with one another, but the Blackbird will still search for worms in the garden, the Goldfinch will still flit about singing his familiar song. The Robin will still sit on the handle of the garden Fork, the pigeon will still act stupid and get run over, the Swallow will still turn up in spring, the Fieldfare in autumn. The Starling will still play about, copying ringtones, and the Dunnock will still hop in and out of the hedge looking for titbits……….


So while we are all making a mess of things……..The birds remain a constant.

Stop for a minute and listen………England sounds the same as it did a hundred years ago!
